Sherry Knowles spoke twice at the IP Business Congress 2012 hosted by Intellectual Management Magazine on June 24-26, 2012 as both a moderator and a panelist. Ms. Knowles served as moderator for “Monetisation Models in Biotech and Pharma.” Ms. Knowles also spoke as a panelist on “The IP Reality Gap.”

The panel titled “Monetisation Models in Biotech and Pharma,” for which Ms. Knowles served as moderator, covered topics on litigating and monetising life sciences patents, creating a life sciences patent exchange, and international perspectives. Other panelists included Adrian Dawkes, Head of Business Development, Pharma Ventures; William Geary, Vice President, Business Development, MPEG LA, LLC; John Pryor, Managing Director Europe, ICAP Patent Brokerage; and Peter Villax, Vice President, Pharma Business Unit, Hovione.

Ms. Knowles also served as a panelist on “The IP Reality Gap” which addressed the question that if IP is so crucial, why is it orphaned in so many businesses? This included discussion on whether non-believers in the power of IP were at a disadvantage, if IP advocates were too often blind to traditional motors of business growth, and placing IP in the proper perspective within business decision making. The other panelists were Ben Goodger (Moderator), Partner, Edwards Wildman LLP; Peter Fairchild, Partner, Smith & Williamson Tax LLP; Samantha Funnell, Chief IP Counsel, ARM; and Paul Jackson, Director of Corporate Banking, SVB Financial Group.
